With Monday Night RAW’s latest PPV, TLC now round the corner this week’s episode saw the build towards the show continue in a major way.
There was plenty of talking points from the show on the whole for what was another standard episode but whilst the show was nothing special, there were five major talking points to come out of the show.
5. Emma Is Given A Chance
Emma has managed to put herself back in the eyes of WWE management after her #GiveEmmaAChance caught the attention of the WWE Universe, and that is exactly what the company has decided to do. After giving her a Women’s Championship match at No Mercy, Emma is now set for another major opportunity at TLC.
After winning a Fatal Fiveway that featured both Sasha Banks and Bayley, Emma earned the right to be Asuka’s debut opponent at the upcoming PPV. For anyone who has seen their match at NXT TakeOver: London you know that fans could be in for a treat here and even though Emma is 99.9% likely to lose, this is still a brilliant opportunity for her.
4. Mickie James Get’s A ‘RAW’ Deal
Ever since Mickie James was drafted to Monday Night Raw the veteran superstar has been pushed to one side and simply forgotten about. Given that she can still go in the ring and has a loyal fan base it is great to see that the former Women’s and Divas Champion is getting a shot at the gold one more time, but the story surrounding it is treating her poorly.
If you remember James’ final storyline before leaving WWE, she was subjected to verbal abuse that certainly crossed the line of bullying as she was branded as ‘Piggie’ James, poking fun at her weight and looks. Now, back in the women’s main event scene and this time… it’s her age. Instead of just giving her and Alexa Bliss an actual story to build a compelling feud around the sole focus of the angle was once again at the age of Mickie James. Whilst it’s great to see her getting a title shot, it would be nice to see her be treated with the respect someone of her talent deserves.
3. Did We Meet Sister Abigail?
Last week saw Bray Wyatt tease that Sister Abigail was alive and well and set to bring her fury to the WWE for the first time at the expense of Finn Balor. This week it appears that we met the famous sister and it has certainly been met with a mixed response from fans, to say the least.
In a video response to the Demon King, Wyatt appeared as his usual creepy self, but halfway transformed into Abigail, with him being Abigail herself, we think. It was confusing and slightly odd as Wyatt sat with some sort of veil draped over him and some makeup to black his eyes out whilst a voice changer added a female voice to mimic everything he said at the same time.
It wasn’t quite what people were expecting and it remains to be seen if that was the end product, which I personally hope it isn’t as the character would work much better being an actual female wrestler in my opinion. It appears that whatever or whoever Abigail is will be playing a crucial role going forward with this feud that will seemingly never end.
2. A New Champion Is Crowned
Enzo Amore continues to be one of the most entertaining parts of Monday Night Raw on a weekly basis, whether you think he is annoying or hilarious he is doing an excellent job and this week was no different. After running his mouth, Kurt Angle placed him in the main event to defend his Cruiserweight Championship against 205 Live’s newest member, Kalisto, in a lumberjack match.
For the first time in what feels like forever at this point, the WWE Universe actually cared about a cruiserweight match on Raw and were clearly invested from start to finish with the match even gaining a “this is awesome” chant. Whilst Amore might not be as flashy in the ring as his 205 Live counterparts, he certainly has the star power that the show needed, yet it was Kalisto who wound up winning the match, being crowned the new Cruiserweight Champion.
This will hopefully only continue this story and keep gaining more eyes to 205 Live on a weekly basis as Kalisto is another wrestler that fans are already invested in. Seeing the cruiserweight’s main event Raw for a third week in a row is a clear sign that WWE is trying to invest into them more and I believe it is starting to pay off.
1. The Hounds Of Justice Are Unleashed
We knew it was coming, but that didn’t make the moment any less special, did it? When Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins all headed to the ring to hand out a beating to The Miz, Curtiz Axel and The Bar the fans exploded with the fist bump confirming that The Shield is back in business.
They didn’t waste much time in producing a t-shirt, and a traditional group beatdown as they took out Braun Strowman, putting him through the announcer’s table with the ‘Shield Bomb’ (please stop that WWE) and the main event for TLC was confirmed.
The reunited Shield will take on Miz, The Bar and Braun Strowman in a TLC match that is sure to be absolute carnage from start to finish and I just hope we get a return of the original entrance and attire to make this return complete.
