14-time WWE champion Triple H returned to WWE programming last night in dramatic circumstances. ‘The Game’ announced himself as the fifth member of Raw’s Survivor Series team, for the traditional five-on-five elimination match this weekend in Houston. Triple H replaces the man originally billed for the team, Jason Jordan after it was stated that he had developed an injury during his victory over Bray Wyatt. The Cerebral Assassin signed his place on the team by delivering a pedigree to Kurt Angle’s storyline son.
Triple H hasn’t appeared on either Monday Night Raw or SmackDown Live since Wrestlemania, when he lost his non-sanctioned match to Seth Rollins in Orlando. His return follows that of his wife, Stephanie McMahon, who reappeared on Raw, also for the first time since ‘Mania, to put pressure on Kurt Angle’s role as Raw General Manager.
The Game’s return follows a string of appearances at house shows that have had an incredible reception. When AJ Styles was called to Raw during the backstage viral meningitis saga, Triple H replaced him on the South American tour, also compensating for the loss of Kevin Owens, who had personal issues. On the European Tour, he also stepped in for Roman Reigns as the third member of The Shield, despite the storied history between that faction and his authority in the past on television.
The Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative will also be in the ring on the company’s tour to India, when he will square off against the former WWE champion Jinder Mahal.
